PADI Divemaster (DM)
As a PADI Divemaster not only do you get to dive almost every day, but you get to share your love of diving with others. How amazing!
The PADI Divemaster course takes on average 4-6 weeks. (Less if you use the PADI eLearning option) On this course you will learn to become a leader of certified divers, assist Instructors on other PADI courses, conduct Scuba Reviews to refesh the skills of certified divers, and refine your own diving skills and knowledge so that you can conduct Divemaster programmes independently.
Taking your PADI Divemaster Course and becoming a Divemaster Trainee (DMT) with Scuba Futures, is both rewarding and fun. It’s not all work and no play, and when you complete your course, there is the obligatory “Congratulations Party”.
For more information, check the “How do I become a PADI Divemaster” page.
PADI Assistant Instructor (AI)
You enjoyed your Divemaster Course so much that you want to go further. The PADI Assistant Instructor (AI) is the next step to becoming a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI). Once you are a PADI AI, you become a more employable Divemaster plus you act as an assistant to the Instructor on PADI courses. You will also have some experience with teaching under the indirect supervision of an Instructor which is great preparation if you want to go on to be an OWSI. As well as all of your Divemaster responsibilites, once you are certified as an AI you will be able to:
- Teach academic presentations under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
- During confined water dives, present initial skills training under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor
- Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor
- Teach and certify PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Divers under the direction of a PADI Instructor
- Teach Project AWARE Specialty courses
- Teach the AWARE Coral Reef Conservation specialty course
- Conduct PADI Discover Scuba Diving experiences in a pool or confined water
- Conduct PADI Seal Team AquaMissions
- Teach PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor after earning the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Instructor rating.
- Teach PADI Equipment and PADI Oxygen Provider Specialties with further training.
The AI Course can be taken as the first part of the IDC (Instructor Development Course) or as a separate, 4 day stand alone programme.
For more information, check the “How do I become a PADI Assistant Instructor” page.
PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)
As a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) you will be qualified to teach all PADI courses from Discover Scuba Diving up to Divemaster using the PADI system of diver education, the most instructionally solid system in diving.
The PADI Instructor Development Course or “IDC”, has two components, consisting of part one, The PADI Assistant Instructor Course, followed by part two, the Open Water Instructor programme. When you have completed these, you will attend an “IE” (Instructor Examination)
PADI Course Director, Neil Richards will show you the latest teaching techniques and continually assess and guide you on your teaching and presentation skills whilst using the entire system of PADI support materials.
For detailed information on the PADI IDC with Neil, check the “PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI)” page.
All Professional Level Courses are available with the PADI eLearning option.
As a PADI OWSI, you will love the incredible feeling after every course you teach, that you have shared your passion with others and shown them a whole new underwater World. But what if you could show them even more? Maybe you have an interest in Deep Diving, or diving with Enriched Air Nitrox. Or is your favourite time to dive at Night? You can pass on your interests to others by taking Instructor Specialties and teach a wider variety of PADI courses.
During each Specialty Instructor course, you will receive not only diving practice, but also training in the Instructor outlines, theory and a full understanding of the course standards and structure. With your Course Director Neil, and his many years of experience teaching these courses, you will also gain valuable tips on making the course not only informative for your own students, but fun too.
Having Specialty Instructor ratings will not only give you a more varied teaching experience and your students more choice and fun, but will also open up more employment opportunities. Plus, it’s the next step up the PADI ladder to becoming a Master Scuba Diver Trainer MSDT)
For more in depth information on the Instructor Specialties available at Scuba Futures, see the “Specialties Instructor” page.
Master Scuba Diver Trainer
The Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating (MSDT) shows you are an Instructor who is serious about continuing education, both for yourself and your students. The rating is extremely sought after by potential employers as it shows commitment and versitility. Moreover, becoming an MSDT gives you the experience and qualificaitons needed to teach the full “Master Scuba Diver” programme, the highest recreational diver rating.
To become an MSDT you will need at least five Specialty Instructor ratings and have certified a minimum of 25 PADI divers.
With Scuba Futures you can work towards your MSDT by taking individual Specialty ratings, or by participating in an MSDT Prep Course, where all five of your choice specialties can be taught to you over several days. This can be taken any time after you become an OWSI. During each Specialty course, you will receive not only diving practice, but also training in the Instructor outlines, theory and a full understanding of the course standards and structure.
Being an MSDT not only gives your own students more choice and learning opportunities, it gives you more employment opportunities and is the next step up the PADI Pro ladder to PADI Staff Instructor.
For more in depth information on the MSDT, see the “Master Scuba Diver Trainer” page.
The PADI IDC Staff Instructor is the next step after MSDT and the first step in leadership level teaching. Just as student divers look up to divemasters, you will find that Instructor candidates will look to you as their mentor respecting your experience and wealth of knowledge. The IDC Staff Instructor is one of the most rewarding courses, as you will be able to help Instructor candidates fulfill their ambition or changing other peoples’ lives. So, in effect, you will be changing the lives of others who want to change others’ lives!
IDC Staff Instructors are sought after in positions such as Dive Centre Managers, and working at PADI 5 star IDC Centres assisting Course Directors on IDCs. So it is a great career move. Plus each IDC you staff will give credit towards the highest instructor levels of “Mater Instructor” and Course Director”.
